Three security forces personnel, one militant killed in gunfight in Bandipora, Kashmir

Three Indian Army soldiers and a militant were killed on Tuesday in Hajin area of Bandipora district of Kashmir, police said, according to news agency Press Trust of India.

Six other security personnel and a civilian also suffered injuries in the gun battle, a police official added. The encounter started at 5:30 am IST today after security forces launched a search operation, following specific information about the presence of militants in the area, a police official said.

He said the gunbattle broke out as the security forces were closing in on the position of the militants. The hiding militants opened firing on forces indiscriminately triggering an encounter.

The militant killed in the encounter was identified as top LeT commander Abu Haris, according to Kashmiri daily, Kashmir Reader.
