Unidentified armed men attempted to kidnap Islamabad-based WION’s Pakistan bureau chief Taha Siddiqui while he was on his way to the airport early Wednesday morning.

Pakistan has been in a state of anarchy since several decades.

There is no effective civilian government, the army and the ISI are virtually in control and – there has always been a nexus between many Islamist groups and the security establishment of Pakistan.

Abductions and disappearances are on the rise. WION has not been spared either.

WION’s Islamabad bureau chief was already harassed and interrogated by authorities several times.

His fearless and truthful reportage is the reason behind it, even and especially on the coverage of the uprising in Balochistan and – the Indian prisoner Kulbhushan Yadav.

Taha Siddiqui escaped kidnapping by the skin of his teeth this morning. Many others have not been that lucky in the history of Pakistan.
