The Sri Lankan Navy today apprehended forty-nine Indian fishermen in Palk Strait on Tuesday. The fishermen are being interrogated at Kankesanthurai Naval camp, reports said.

Last month, the Sri Lankan navy had arrested seven Indian fishermen after they were reportedly fishing in Neduntheevu, close to Sri Lanka.

On July 9, three fishermen from Jagadapattinam in Pudukottai district were detained off Karainagar in northern Sri Lanka, for allegedly entering Lankan waters.

In March, 77 Indian and 12 Sri Lankan fishermen in each other's custody were repatriated following the diplomatic tension triggered by the killing of a fisherman.
