Union textile minister and now the Information and Broadcasting minister, Smriti Irani, is back, taking jibes at opposition leaders.

A day after Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi targeted the Centre by raking up issues like the Rohith Vemula suicide case, the Dadri lynching and demonetisation, Irani mocked him for “all that he does”.

Irani tweeted, "However, thank you @officeofRG for all that you do. Sincerely from the BJP!????", showing off her sarcasm after a long time.

Rahul Gandhi said yesterday that Vemula didn’t commit suicide but was murdered for being a Dalit.

"I don't call it suicide; I call it murder. Rohith (Vemula) was crushed and murdered by the indignities he suffered," said Gandhi while speaking at a conference.

The Congress vice-president also slammed the Centre by raising the Dadri lynching case.

"Mohammad Akhlaq was butchered because they say he stole a calf. It was a lie. Instead of questioning his (Akhlaq) brutal killing they asked whether the meat in the fridge was mutton or beef," he said.

Before being shunted from the post of minister for Human Resource Development, Irani had made headlines for her verbal spats with opposition leaders. The most famous being the one with Mayawati just after Vemula’s suicide.

She had left members of the Rajya Sabha stunned with her response to Mayawati after the Dalit leader accused the BJP-led government of not taking action against those who “pushed” Vemula to commit suicide.

“Who uses a child to play their political strategy, sir? Not just in this House but across the nation”, Irani had said.

"There was a Dalit in the committee formed, why are you ignoring that Mayawati ji?"

And then came the final dramatic jibe that shocked the floor.

"Agar mere uttar se aap santusht na ho to main apna sar kalam karke aapke charnoon main chhod doongi." (if you are not satisfied with my response, I will cut of my head and place it at your feet).

Irani was given the additional charge of the I&B ministry after Venkaiah Naidu stepped down to run for the vice-presidential election.
