Shiv Sena member of parliament Ravindra Gaikwad has admitted to hitting -- with his slipper -- an Air India staff member after he was allegedly made to sit in economy class despite having an open business class ticket.

Gaikwad was flying from Pune to Delhi. The flight landed at Delhi at 10 am but, media reports said, Gaikwad refused to deplane.

This apparently is when the staff member came to speak with him.

Gaikwad was apparently upset over the seat given to him.

Gaikwad says (watch interview below) he asked the staff member to call in a "senior" to resolve the issue and told him he was an MP.

"What MP?" Gaikwad says the staff member said to him. "I will talk to Modi," Gaikwad says the staff member told him.

"Yes, I hit him. He misbehaved with me," he says.

"I hit him 25 times."

At no point does Gaikwad sound repentant.

Nor does he offer his victim an apology.

Air India, in the meantime, has said: "We have constituted a team to probe the whole incident."

An FIR has also been lodged against the MP. Meanwhile, Shiv Sena has sought an explanation from Gaikwad.
