Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif is set to raise the problems unfolding in India's Kashmir at the United Nations.

"The prime minister has expressed grave concern over India's use of excessive force in Kashmir," a spokesperson of his office told Pakistan newspaper Dawn.

The issue will be raised at the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) session, the spokesperson further said, adding that it was a top priority issue for Sharif.

The 71st session of UNGA will commence in New York from September 13.

More than 70 people have been killed in Kashmir following the killing of Hizbul Mujahideen commander Burhan Wani by Indian security forces on July 8.

The killing unleashed a wave of protests that devolved into clashes between India's security personnel and agitators.

This is the worst civilian crisis in the restive state since 2010.
