A report in the DNA newspaper said Wednesday that a mob of more than 1,000 people was roaming the steets of Greater Noida Tuesday, looking for African nationals to attack.

“There were more than 1,000 people on a witch-hunt for Africans,” the news report quoted the First Fnformation Report (FIR) as saying.

The news report went on to say that the mob "attacked anyone who looked African".

A number of African nationals were attacked Tuesday.

A video of one attack on African nationals in a mall in Greater Noida emerged yesterday.

Warning: Footage of the attack is graphic and disturbing.

The news report said racial tensions in the region had been brewing for some days over the death of a local teenaged student. The locals allege he was "drugged to death" by certain African nationals.

Five people had been detained over this by the police, but were let off as there was no evidence against them, DNA reports.

The news report went on to say police have arrested seven people in connection with the attack and have launched a massive manhunt for other people involved in the violence.
