Amid mounting tensions between India and Pakistan in the wake of the terror attack on Indian Army base in Uri sector of Kashmir, two infiltration bids were foiled today along the Line of Control (LoC), Indian Army said.

“Even as counter-infiltration operations continue in Uri and Nowgam sectors, two more infiltration bids have been successfully foiled by the army at two different places in Nowgam sector,” an army spokesman was quoted as saying by Indian news agency PTI.

It's pertinent to mention that the vigil has increased in the Valley in the wake of the terror strike on Indian Army base in Uri on Sunday where at least 18 Indian soldiers were killed following an attack by four militants. All four militants were gunned down.

Counter infiltration operations were carried out in Uri and Nowgam sectors in the Valley in the past two days in which one soldier has been killed. There were reports of at least eight militants getting killed in the Uri operation but no bodies have been recovered so far, according to PTI.

A militant was also gunned down today in the Bandipora area of the Valley.

"One militant has been killed in the gunfight in Bandipora," an army official confirmed to PTI news agency.  Infiltrators were reportedly trying to sneak into Kashmir Valley from Pakistan-controlled Kashmir.

The security forces cordoned off the area and launched a search operation acting on specific intelligence inputs about the presence of militants in Aragam village of Bandipora, the news agency said.

As the forces were conducting the search operation, the hiding militants fired upon them, triggering an encounter in which, so far, one militant has been killed, the official was quoted as saying.

A weapon has also been recovered from the site of operation.

"The operation is in progress and more details are awaited," the official.

At least 18 Indian soldiers were killed in the Uri terror strike on Sunday and four militants were gunned down following one of the worst such attacks in about a decade.

A series of counter-infiltration operations have been launched in Kashmir following the Uri attack. Similar operation was carried out in Nowgam sector of the Valley on Wednesday.
