Manoj Sinha has emerged as the front-runner for the post of UP chief minister.

WION's chief domestic correspondent Kartikeya Sharma said Sinha's "clean image, lack of political baggage, and low profile" had helped Sinha's case.

As had his RSS background.

Sinha has been an RSS pracharak (worker).

In neighbouring Uttarakhand, Trivendra Singh Rawat is being spoken of as the new chief minister.

He too has an RSS background.

There has been much speculation over who will become chief minister in the two states. Only yesterday, home minister Rajnath Singh was being touted as the new chief minister of UP.

Meanwhile, ANI reported that the swearing-in ceremony of the new Uttar Pradesh chief minister would take place in Lucknow on March 19 and that both Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP president Amit Shah would attend.
