The prime minister spoke about a number of issues including the floods in India, the success of GST, the importance of the month of August
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in the 34th edition of his monthly radio programme 'Mann Ki Baat', spoke about the recently rolled out Goods and Services Tax saying it has transformed the economy.
“It has been one month since GST was implemented and its benefits can be seen already. I feel very happy, satisfied when poor writes to say how because of Good and Service Tax (GST) prices of various items essential for him have come down,” Modi said.
Modi said GST is more than just a tax reform, adding that it ushers in a new culture.
"Successful rollout of GST is a case study. It is also an example of cooperative federalism. All decisions taken by both Centre & States".
He also spoke on the devastating flood situation in Gujarat, Assam and Northeastern states.
“A 24x7 control room helpline number 1078 is functioning continuously to deal with the flood situation,” PM Modi said.
The prime minster stressed that the flood affected areas are being closely monitored and the relief efforts are being undertaken on an extensive scale by the government.
"State governments too are making maximum possible efforts on their part to provide relief to the flood affected people. Even the social, cultural organisation and citizens are charged with spirit of service and are also making utmost efforts to help the affected people," he said.
