A day after students from the Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) took out a march in the Indian capital of New Delhi in support of a missing university student, another PH.D student was found dead in his hostel on Tuesday.

The student, identified as J R Philemon, was a resident of Manipur and had been missing for the last three days.

The police said he was found dead in his room at the Brahmaputra Hostel under mysterious circumstances. They recovered his body after forcefully opening the door, following complaints of foul smell emanating from the room by the student in the neighbouring room.

"Philemon was residing in room no-171 of Brahmaputra Hostel and was not seen from last three days. The police were informed by security control room about his death" a senior police officer. The police added that the case is being investigated.

Earlier on Monday, about 1,000 university students had marched from Mandi House to Jantar Mantar raising slogans against the administration and the police.

An M.Sc student, Najeeb Ahmed had gone missing from the university eleven days ago, after he was beaten up by a mob of students, reportedly from the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP).

The students complained of being kept in the dark by the administration about their actions. They are also expected to raise the issue with the Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal.
