Polling booths opened at 7am in Manipur today in the first phase for thirty-eight Assembly segments. There were long queues in first three hours with 29 per cent voting recorded.
Heavy security arrangements have been put in place with 280 companies of central paramilitary forces and armed police of other states deployed across polling centres in the state.
Polling is taking place across Imphal East, Imphal West, Bishnupur, Churachandpur, Kangpokpi and Phezerol districts in the first phase.
There are 168 candidates in the fray in the first phase, which includes six women.
