The Madras High Court has granted an interim stay on the look out circulars issued against the son of former union minister P Chidambaram's, Karti, and four others.

The circulars were issued  by the centre over a corruption case filed by the Central Bureau of Investigation.

The court also directed the centre to file a counter by September 4.

Karti’s associates C B N Reddy, Ravi Viswanathan, Mohanan Rajesh and S Baskar Raman also got the interim relief.

The Foreigner Regional Registration Officer and the Bureau of Immigration had issued these circulars against Karti on June 16 and against the four others on July 18.

Karti, in his petition, said that the circular was part of the central government's “political vendetta” which was issued “arbitrarily”.

He also said it was issued without jurisdiction to prevent him from travelling abroad.
