Two Hizbul Mujahideen terrorists were killed in an encounter between militants and security forces in Tahab area of Pulwama in Jammu and Kashmir, ANI reported.
The bodies of the terrorists, Tausif and Irfan have also been recovered by the security forces. The operations have now been called off.
One SLR and one INSAS rifle have been recovered, according to ANI.
Security forces launched a cordon and search operation last night following information about the presence of terrorists in the area, PTI cited a police official as saying.
The official said a gunfire broke out between the terrorists and security forces early Sunday.
"We had inputs that these terrorists were threatening government officials and politicians. Based on this input, a search operation was carried out in the morning. The search party reached a house and they were fired upon. They were given a chance to surrender, instead, they fired heavily," Harbir Singh, Commander 12 RR told ANI.
Internet services were suspended in Pulwama district after the terrorists were gunned down.
