Three terrorists were gunned down Wednesday by security forces in an encounter in Tral of South Kashmir's Pulwama district. A civilian also lost his life.
The terrorists belonged to terrorist Zakir Musa's al-Qaeda affiliate, the Ansar Ghazwat ul-Hind, a top police official confirmed.
He added that the search operation was still on and there were chances that another terrorist was still in the area.
All three militants killed, they were members of Zakir Musa group. Recovered 2AK-47S and one pistol from the Tral encounter site," Inspector General of Police (IGP) Munir Khan told ANI.
The IGP revealed that all the three were local militants and that two had joined militancy in 2015 and one in 2016.
The joint operation was launched by 42 Rashtriya Rifles and Special Operations Group (SOG). The encounter started at Gulabbagh Tral in Pulwama district.
23-year-old Zakir Musa, a former Hizbul Mujahideen commander, renounced his position from the terrorist group in May 2017.
He was announced as the head of al-Qaeda's new cell, the Ansar Ghawzat-ul-Hind in July by a propaganda channel affiliated to the terrorist group.
