Soldier allegedly shoots Army Major dead after dispute near LoC

An Army Major was shot dead last evening, allegedly by an Army soldier, following a dispute about an unknown topic at a post near the Line of Control in Jammu and Kashmir, media reports said.

Police say Major Shikar Thapa of 8 Rashtriya Rifles died on the spot after being fired upon allegedly by Naik Kathiresan G.

Police are investigating the case. 

Meanwhile, Army officials have confirmed the fratricidal killing, that of a fellow soldier or superior. They say details are being ascertained.

The Army is expected to release a statement later today.
