Indian singer Arijit Singh turns 29: Catch his popular songs
Arijit Singh was born in Jaiganj, a small town in the Murshidabad district of Indias's West Bengal.
His mother, Aditi Singh and grandmother, Bharti Devi are both trained singers. He started training under the Harjari brothers at three years of age. He was trained in Indian classical music by Guru Rajendra Prasad Harjari, Guru Dhirendra Prasad Harjari taught him tabla and Guru Virendra Prasad Harjari taught him Rabindra sangeet, a bit of pop and folk music.
His first pan-India public appearance was when he participated in the reality show ‘Fame Gurukul’ (2005) at the age of 18. Although he couldn’t make his place in the finale of the show, his dedication towards his passion helped him achieve the title of a successful singer with the maximum number of hit songs in a year.
Before he became a playback singer, Arijit worked as a music programmer for renowned music directors like Pritam Chakraborty, Mithoon, Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy, and Vishal-Shekhar. In an interview, he mentioned that this was the only way for him to survive in a competitive city like Mumbai. He would also sing scratch versions of songs while working with Pritam that turned out to be fruitful since the director later gave him several songs to sing in his movies.
Arijit Singh’s debut song as a playback singer was ‘Phir mohabbat…’ from the movie Murder 2. Although he had sung it in 2009, it was only released in 2011.
Arijit lent his voiuce for popular Bollywood movies including Cocktail and Barfi. He was nominated for the Mirchi Music Award for his song ‘Phir Le Aaya Dil’ from the movie ‘Barfi’. However, ‘Duaa’ from ‘Shanghai’ fetched him the Mirchi Award.
In 2013, the song ‘Tum Hi Ho’ from ‘Aashiqui 2’ received an overwhelming response from the audience and changed the face of his career. He was awarded the Filmfare Award for Best Male Playback Singer Award for the year 2013.
Title track of movie ‘Ae Dil Hai Mushkil’, composed by director Pritam Chakraborty was immensely liked by masses and garnered more than 100 million views on social media platform YouTube by December 2016. The track fetched him the Filmfare award for the Best Singer of the Year.
He also sang ‘Channa Mereya’, which has been dubbed as ‘Ultimate Song’ and the soul of the same film, garnered over 60 million views.
Apart from being a singer, Arjit also enjoys playing badminton, writing, documentary making and claims to be a movie freak. He also enjoys sports like cricket, football. His favorite sportsmen include Sachin Tendulkar, Lance Klusener, and Jonty Rhodes.
