Member of India’s Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) Mohammed Shahabuddin today walked out of prison on bail after 11 years.
The RJD national committee member has been a four-time member of parliament (MP) and was sent to jail in 2005 after several pending cases against him were reopened.
“For me, Lalu Prasad is the leader”, Shahabuddin said, speaking of the RJD chief after his release.
Shahabuddin left for Siwan, his hometown in the east Indian state of Bihar, after he was let out of the Bhagalpur divisional jail on Wednesday. The Patna high court granted him bail in the murder case of a witness in the 2004 killing of two brothers.
Shahabuddin’s wife Heena Sahab lost to Om Prakash Yadav of the Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) in the last parliamentary election from Siwan in 2014.
Speaking of his time in jail, the RJD leader said that he was taking back two cartons full of books. “I am an avid reader,” he said.
