Indian fisherman injured in alleged stone pelting by Sri Lankan navy

A  fisherman suffered an eye injury when Sri Lankan naval personnel allegedly pelted stones at his boat off the Katchatheevu islet in the Indian ocean today.

The fisherman was part of a group of about 3,500 who had put out to sea in 659 boats on saturday morning, Fishermen's Association President S Emiret told reporters.

He said the Sri Lankan naval personnel also damaged 50 fishing nets.

The injured fisherman has been hospitalised.
