India: Two killed, seven hurt as roof caves in

A 6-year-old boy and an elderly woman were killed and seven others injured when the roof of a Chattarpur rest house caved in, an official from the Indian state of Madhya Pradesh said today.

The incident took place on Sunday evening at Jatashankar Dham, where a temple of Lord Hanuman is located, sub divisional magistrate Bijawar, Ravindra Choukse said.

The roof of the dharamshala caved in as a rock fell over it, trapping nine persons who were having their meals, he said.

Yash Raj (6) and a 70-year-old woman, who has not been identified yet, were killed in the incident.

The district administration has announced an ex-gratia of one lakh Indian rupees to kin of each killed in the incident and Rs 10,000 each to the seriously injured.

The injured were admitted initially in Bijawar and later transferred to Chhattarpur district hospital, the SDM added.
