Rizwan Qureshi, brother of a politician from the Samajwadi party and an accomplice have been arrested
Four people, including two minors, were beaten up and injected with petrol in their anuses over suspicions of stealing a mobile phone in the Uttar Pradesh state's Ghaziabad city, only 20 km away from the Indian capital.
Two people, including Rizwan Qureshi, brother of a politician from the ruling Samajwadi Party (SP), were arrested earlier this week after a WhatsApp video of the incident started doing rounds, Indian news agency PTI reported.
Last week, Qureshi, who runs a dairy, lost his mobile phone and suspected Zaheer Baig (17), Gulzar (16) Fimo and Firoz (both 25), all from the same neighbourhood, of stealing the phone, superintendent of police Rakesh Pandey said.
Later Qureshi called the four to his dairy and thrashed them, along with his associates, before injecting petrol with a syringe in their private parts, Pandey said.
The four were rushed to the primary health centre and the condition of minors Zaheer and Gulzar remained critical.
According to a report in Indian daily, Hindustan Times, the doctors at GTB hospital in New Delhi have performed diversion colostomy on the 16-year-old.
