Gunbattle ends in south Kashmir's Shopian district, militants escape

The gunbattle which was underway since last night between security forces and militants in south Kashmir's Shopian district ended abruptly this morning with terrorists managing to escape, ANI reported.

The security forces did not report any casualties, according to ANI. It is still not clear how the terrorists escaped as the encounter was underway.

The encounter erupted after security forces launched a cordon-and-search operation in Chilli pora village in Shopian district following a tip-off about the presence of militants there, a police official said.

As the security forces closed in, they came under fire from the militants, the police official added.
