The situation soon turned violent which led the police to detain MLA Engineer Rashid even as traders in the state continued their protest.

The Jammu and Kashmir legislature is currently discussing the implementation of the new GST regime which is aimed at securing a uniform tax structure nationwide but legislators and traders in Kashmir feel GST will erode the state's special position under the Indian constitution and affect the state's fiscal autonomy.

The state Assembly had to be adjourned yesterday after several legislators turned violent inside the House.
