Police in Pakistan on Thursday arrested four more men involved in the rape of a girl as punishment for a rape committed by her brother.
A village council in the suburb of Multan had ordered the rape of the 16-year-old girl as punishment after her brother sexually assaulted a 12 year old.
The 12 year old’s brother, who is now in custody, complained to the council about the assault, naming his cousin as the culprit.
The council then ordered the brother to rape the accused’s sister. The order was carried out, according to police, AFP reported.
The number of those detained has now risen to 18.
"Both the parties had filed cases of rape against each other at the local police station after the incident that happened last week," local police official Allah Baksh told AFP on Wednesday.
The two girls are reported to be staying in a women’s shelter and were due to meet Shahbaz Sharif, the provincial chief minister.
The Supreme Court has ordered a probe.
