In news from across the border, Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan’s cousin sister Noor Jehan will now be contesting elections from Pakistan’s Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa province, a Pakistani media report said on Thursday.

Noor Jehan collected her nomination forms from the Election Commission on Thursday. She will be a candidate from the PK-77 seat in Peshawar.

According to the report, Jehan was quoted: "My aim is to work for women empowerment. I would like to focus on the problems in my constituency."

Jehan had earlier served as a councillor in Pakistan.

Jehan is related to Shah Rukh from his paternal side. The family settled in Pakistan has even visited Khan several times and maintains close contact with relatives in India.

In another news, Jehan’s brother Mansoor, who is leading her election campaign, revealed in the report published that their family had been a part of the Khudai Khidmatgar Movement's struggle initiated by Bacha Khan.
