The much-awaited election results of five state assemblies are out, with the BJP getting a clear majority in Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand and the Congress winning the Punjab Assembly. In Goa and Manipur, the Congress emerged as the single largest party, but it failed to cross the half-way mark.
While the BJP got a landslide victory in UP, it wasn’t a cakewalk for the party, which had been out of power in India’s largest state for around 15 years. Similarly, Congress made a comeback to Punjab after a decade.
