Identities of five dead Dhaka attack perpetrators and the slain chef have been ascertained through DNA tests, police told The Daily Morning Star.

Nibras Islam, Rohan Imtiaz, Meer Sabeh Mubasheer, Khairul Islam Payel and Shafiqul Islam Uzzal were confirmed as the five attackers, while Saiful Islam was identified as the slain chef.

Investigators said DNA samples were collected during their postmortem. Later, law enforcers collected further DNA samples from family members of the dead attackers.

On July 2, five armed militants had taken over the upscale Holey Artisan Bakery in Gulshan and after an hours-long standoff with Bangladesh security forces, they were gunned down. In total, 29 people were killed, including 20 hostages, during the siege.

Most of the militants belonged to affluent families and were schooled in good institutes.

One suspect, however, had studied in a madrasa in Bogra.
