Four members of a self-styled "gau rakshak" (cow vigilante) group were arrested in Jammu and Kashmir's Reasi district after they attacked and injured a family of five -- including a nine-year-old girl -- who were grazing their livestock.

A senior police officer said a First Information Report (FIR) had been lodged against the persons involved in the attack against a nomadic family which took place in Talwara area.

The victims said the attackers mercilessly beat them and took away their entire flock including goats, sheep and cows.

The livestock has been restored to the family, media reports quoted police officials as saying.
