A BSP leader Muhammad Shami was shot dead by unknown assailants in Allahabad city in India's northern state of Uttar Pradesh, reports said.
Media reports said he was shot by bike-bourne assailants. According to reports, the accused shot Shami near his house.
In the recently concluded Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections, Shami had contested against Raghuraj Pratap Singh alias Raja Bhaiya, who is six time-winner from the Kunda constituency.
Uttar Pradesh police is investigating the matter.
