Ahmedabad is India's first city to feature in the list of world heritage cities
Ahmedabad has been declared by UNESCO as a world heritage city.
It will be India's first world heritage city. Gujarat chief minister Vijay Rupani and BJP President Amit Shah hailed the move.
"Thrilled to learn that Ahmedabad has been recognised as UNESCO World heritage city, first of its kind in India," Rupani tweeted.
Ahmedabad was in race along with Delhi and Mumbai.
The city had featured in UNESCO's tentative list of world heritage cities on March 31, 2011.
