Ahead of international Yoga day, hundreds throng Indian Embassy in Kathmandu for yoga event

Hundreds of yoga enthusiasts, including Nepalese film actors, today gathered at the Indian Embassy here and performed various asanas, ahead of the International Day of Yoga on Thursday.

A video message by Prime Minister Narendra Modi was also played, as around 500 people assembled for the event on the Indian Embassy premises.

Leading actress and Miss Nepal 2011 Malina Joshi, Indian diplomats, embassy officials and journalists were among those who participated in the event this morning. 

India's Ambassador to Nepal Manjeet Singh Puri stressed the importance of yoga in mental and physical health of an individual.

Representatives of various institutions including Yoga guru Ramdev's Patanjali Yoga Peeth, Nepal were also present for the programme.

Ambassador Puri also handed out certificates of appreciation to students from different Kathmandu schools for participating in a yoga competition.
