WhatsApp users in China are surrounded by a fear of losing the messaging app as it has not been running smoothly for a while. The users complained of experiencing trouble in sharing photos, videos, and texts as well.
The New York Times reported that the popular messaging app, which is owned by Facebook, was partly blocked by the Chinese filters.
The partial ban may be converted into a complete ban of the app in China or it can be lifted later.
The communist country has already banned three major websites and auditing sites. The websites have been restricted from streaming video and audio content.
A complete ban on the app will add to the Chinese government's long list of cracking down on freedom of speech.
The native messaging app "WeChat" will also grow in the absence of WhatsApp.
YouTube, Twitter, and Facebook are already banned in China.
