Modi tops Twitter 2017 most followed list; Amitabh, SRK, Virat way behind

India's PM Narendra Modi topped the list of Twitter followers, adding over 13 million followers this year.

Narendra Modi most followed Indian on Twitter

Prime Minister Narendra Modi continues to be the most followed Indian on Twitter with 17.5k tweets till date.

He garnered 37.5 million followers, a leap of 52 per cent, while GST implementation, 'Mann ki Baat', the presidential elections and the first anniversary of demonetisation were top topics and hashtags.

As per a Twitter report capturing trends in 2017, Modi saw his follower base increase 52 per cent to 37.5 million (as of December 5), from 24.6 million in 2016.

Amitabh Bachchan most followed Bollywood actor

Amitabh Bachchan grabbed the second position as the most followed Indian on Twitter with 31.6 million followers, according to data released on Tuesday.

His latest tweet was titled 'To Shashiji from your babbua,' a write-up in Hindi with a sketch of veteran actor Shashi Kapoor, who passed away on December 4th.

The Bollywood legend increased his followers by 34% from last year.

The "Shehensha" of Bollywood is the most followed Indian actor on Twitter with 60.1k tweets.

SRK not a King on Twitter

Shah Rukh Khan is ranked third on Twitter follower race with 31 million followers.

'@imsrk'- the twitter handle of King khan saw a growth of about 40% from last year.

The "Badsha" of Bollywood has tweeted about 57.1k times making him the second most followed Bollywood actor on Twitter.

Salman Khan's followers grow

'@BeingSalmanKhan'- The twitter handle of Salman Khan is the 4th name on the list of most followed Indian.

The "Dabangg" of Bollywood bags the third position as the most followed actor after SRK on Twitter with 28.6 million followers.

He saw a growth of 40% compared to 2016.

He has about 42.3k tweets till date.

Akshay Kumar

Akshay Kumar is the fifth most followed Indian on Twitter with 22.9 million followers.

He becomes the fourth most followed Bollywood actor with 16k tweets till date.

'@akshaykumar'- The twitter handle of the Padman actor saw a huge jump of 52%.

Last year Akshay had 15 million followers.

Deepika Padukone only woman on Twitter list

Deepika Padukone is the only woman in the Top-10 most followed Indians' list.

The "Padmavati" star who has been trending on Twitter and grabbing everybody's attention lately because of Sanjaya Leela Bansali's controversial movie has 22.1 million followers on Twitter.

She has 3,493 tweets and that makes her sixth most followed Bollywood star.

Virat debuts on Twitter top-10

'@imVkohli'- The twitter handle of Virat Kohli comes on number 10 on the list with 20.8 million followers.

Though the Bollywood stars dominate the list the only two cricketers who could made it to the Twitter Top-10 position were cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar at number 8, with 21.7 million followers and Virat Kohli at No-10.

With 1,319 tweets till date, Indian caption Virat Kohli made it to the list for the first time.
