The Swedish actor was battling lung cancer
Swedish actor Michael Nyqvist of "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo" Swedish film series fame passed away on Tuesday after battling lung cancer for a year.
Nyqvist, who was 56, "passed away quietly surrounded by family" in Stockholm, his spokeswoman Alissa Goodman said in a statement, Reuters reported.
Nyqvist rose to stardom with the character of investigative journalist Mikael Blomkvist in film adaptations of Swedish author Stieg Larsson's "Millennium" novel series.
He was recently seen playing the role of villain in "Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol" and "John Wick."
His stint as an author started in 2010 with the autobiographical memoir "Just After Dreaming”.The book describes his journey to find his biological parents.
"Michael's joy and passion were infectious to those who knew and loved him. His charm and charisma were undeniable, and his love for the arts was felt by all who had the pleasure of working with him," Goodman said.in her statement.
