Bengal film actor Vikram Chatterjee was arrested late Thursday night in connection with a car accident in Kolkata in which 29-year-old model Sonika Chauhan had died in April.
According to reports, the actor was arrested by Tollygunge police officers near Acropolis Mall in Kasba – located off eastern metropolitan bypass.
Reports say that there is "new evidence" against the actor. Vikram and Sonika were reportedly in a relationship when the accident occurred.
On April 29, Vikram and Sonika were returning from a party when the car fell into the Nayanjuli river. Vikram was allegedly driving drunk and was charged under IPC section (304) ‘culpable homicide not amounting to murder’ which is a non-bailable act.

The residents nearby helped extricate Sonika and Vikram from the car and both were sent to a hospital 6 kms away.
Sonika reportedly died forty minutes after being admitted to the hospital. Vikram was discharged after initial treatment, but was readmitted to the hospital after his condition worsened.
However, the actor was released on bail on May 5, after which he held a press conference and stated that he was not under the influence of alcohol when the accident took place.
Sonika's parents were reportedly informed about her death five hours after their daughter died in hospital.
Vikram Chatterjee has acted in several Bengali soaps while Sonika was a model and TV host of Pro Kabaddi League and Big Boss Bangla.
