Gujarat chief minister Vijay Rupani said on Thursday that his government was contemplating to change the name of Ahmedabad to Karnavati.

He also added that the talks for changing the name of the city were going on for a long time and the process will be taken after taking into consideration legal angles.

"We are contemplating changing the name of Ahmedabad to Karnavati, the talks of which have been going on since a long time. Concrete steps will be taken after looking at it from legal and all other angles. We will think about it in the time to come, " Rupani said.

Rupani's comments have come days after Uttar Pradesh government led by chief minister Yogi Adityanath renamed Allahabad to Prayagraj.

While addressing a gathering in Ayodhya on the occasion of Deepotsav on Tuesday, Adityanath also hinted on changing the name of Faizabad to Ayodhya district.

Ayodhya will have its own airport named after Ram and a medical college after king Dashrath, Adityanath said.
