Victims remembered in Tami Nadu on 13 anniversary of Tsunami 2004

Tamil Nadu recalled the horrific tragedy of Tsunami 2004 and remembered its victims on its 13th anniversary today.

Fisheries Minister D Jayakumar and Handloom Minister O S Manian also paid tributes to the victims.

Special prayers were held while mourners demonstrated processions in the loving memory of those who had lost their lives.

Some people also remember their loved ones by pouring milk into the sea.

People came together and offered prayers and tributes in the coastal areas of Chennai and Nagapattinam.

People at Nagapattinam observed a minute of silence to pay homage to the tsunami victims. 

Memorial services were also held in the neighboring district of Karaikal.

At Nagore, tributes were paid to those who were buried in the land owned by the Dargah Saint Hazrath Syed Shahul Hameed Qadir wali.

Local fisherman also kept off the sea today in the coastal areas of the district.

A massive tsunami struck Tamil Nadu's coast on December 26, 2004.

The calamity was caused by an undersea earthquake in Indonesia.

Tsunami 2004 is known to have caused massive damage to life and property across the state.

Around 10,749 casualties were reported, nearly 7,000 died in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry.
