Defying the early morning trends, Sensex recovered and surged over 100 points. In the early morning trade, the Sensex was down 867 points as the BJP began trailing in Gujarat election polls. Nifty also slumped 258.45 points to 10,074.80 as early leads in Gujarat assembly polls began to trickle in. Though the BJP took the lead immediately after the counting started, the trend reversed with Congress closing the gap.
