Hours after Finance Minister Aruj Jaitley issued clarification regarding Prime Minister Narendra Modi's comments on former prime minister Manmohan Singh and former vice-president Hamid Ansari, Congress president Rahul Gandhi targeted Jaitley on Twitter by sarcastically thanking him for reminding the nation that ''our PM never means what he says or says what he means''.

Rahul Gandhi tweeted ``Dear Mr Jaitlie - thank you for reminding India that our PM never means what he says or says what he means.''

The Congress president called the BJP leader as 'Mr Jaitlie' to imply that he was a liar too.

Rahul Gandhi also posted the video of Modi's speech where he accused former  PM Manmohan Singh of colluding with Pakistan to defeat the BJP in the Gujarat polls.

Jaitley today clarified, "PM in his speeches didn't question, nor meant to question the commitment to this nation of either former PM Manmohan Singh or Former VP Hamid Ansari."

"We hold these leaders in high esteem, as well as their commitment to India," said Jaitley and called any such perception "erroneous".

Both the houses of Parliament were adjourned previously over sloganeering by the Opposition against PM Modi's remarks.

The Congress party had also staged a walkout from the Lok Sabha after seeking an apology from PM Modi over his remarks against Manmohan Singh for an alleged "secret meeting with Pakistani officials".
