The Indian Coast Guard rescued 26 members from an oil tanker, MT Genessa after it caught fire on Wednesday evening.

However, two of the crew members sustained burn injuries.

MT Genessa, 183 metres in length and a draft of 10 metres, was carrying 30,000 tonnes of high-speed diesel off the coast in Gujarat.

The fire started at around 6 pm in the evening.

A defence spokesperson has said that the Indian Coast Guard Interceptor Boat C-403 along with the maritime security agency's pollution control team were involved in controlling the fire.

The coast guard plans to cordon the vessel to avoid oil spillage.
