Union Minister Nitin Gadkari fainted at an event in Ahmednagar on Friday, news agency ANI reported.

Later in the day, the minister informed that his health is now stable and that he lost consciousness owing to lack of oxygen.

"Due lack of oxygen I fainted. Later I got my blood sugar and blood pressure checked and the reports were fine. I am better now and there is nothing to worry," the minister told media.

Gadkari was at a public event in Maharashtra's Ahmednagar district on Friday when the incident happened. He reported feeling suffocated as he was wearing heavy robes during the event, news agency PTI reported.

"I felt some suffocation during the event. The pandal (at the venue) was air-tight. I was wearing the robes of the convocation ceremony, that is why there was less oxygen. That is also why I fainted. My health is alright. (I have) no problem of blood pressure or sugar (now)," Gadkari told reporters.
