A day after an FIR was registered against Dalit leader and newly elected Gujarat MLA Jignesh Mewani, Mewani has blamed the Sangh Parivar and the BJP for targetting him.

He also said that his speech did not have a single inflammatory word.

Calling the FIR as a "childish attempt" by BJP and Sangh Parivar he said that it was an after effect of the Gujarat results.

He said "members of Sangh Parivar and BJP have made a childish attempt to tarnish my image and target me, it is an after effect of the Gujarat results and it is also because they have a sense of fear about 2019. "

Earlier the newly elected MLA from Gujarat urged PM Modi to speak up on the violence against Dalits.

A First Information Report (FIR) had been registered against Dalit leader and newly elected Gujarat MLA Jignesh Mewani and Delhi's Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) student leader Umar Khalid for inciting the riots near Pune's Bhima-Koregaon on Monday.

The FIR had been registered on charges of creating communal disharmony through the provocative speeches they delivered at Elgaar Parishad held at Shaniwarwada in Pune on December 31.
