The Lok Sabha passed the Goods and Services Tax (Compensation to States) Amendment Bill 2017 on Wednesday.

The bill was introduced by Arun Jaitley in the lower house last week.

The approval would allow increasing the maximum rate at which the Compensation Cess can be levied from 15 to 25 per cent  on motor vehicles for transport of not more than 13 persons, including the driver [falling under sub-headings 870210, 8702 20, 8702 30 or 8702 90]; and motor vehicles falling under headings 8703.

On Wednesday another bill was passed by the Lok Sabha, providing protection to unauthorised colonies and slums from punitive action for three more years.

Today both the houses were adjourned after Opposition leader Ghulam Nabi Azad stalled the house over Union Minister Ananth Kumar Hegde's statements on secularism and changing the constitution.
