The Supreme Court had ordered Karti to appear before the CBI for an interrogation as part of the INX media Foreign Investment Promotion Board (FIPB) clearance case.
According to the CBI, INX Media stated in its records that an amount of Rs 10 lakh was given to Advantage Strategic Consulting (P) Limited, a firm the CBI said was "indirectly" owned by Karti, for management consultancy charges towards an FIPB notification and clarification.
Karti had told the SC earlier that he is willing to appear before the CBI in the case.
"I am not afraid of appearing, but I need protection," Karti had told the apex court.
On August 10, the Madras High Court, put a stay on the “lookout circular” issued by the centre against Karti and four others over a corruption case filed by the CBI.
Karti had accused the CBI of conspiring against him out of the frustration of not being able to prove anything against him in the Aircel-Maxis case.
