"Just having the best ideas for development are not enough. Efforts have to be comprehensive and 'outcome driven', not 'output driven',"  Prime Minister Narendra Modi has said.

Modi was speaking in New Delhi at the birth centenary celebrations of Nanaji Deshmukh.

"Initiatives have to be completed on time and fruits of development must reach the intended beneficiaries," Modi said.

He added that the "facilities that are associated with cities must also be made available to our villages."

And that the "lack of sanitation facilities is adversely impacting the development journey of villages."

Modi added that the "strength of a democracy can't be restricted to how many people vote".

He said that while that is "important, but the real essence of a democracy is jan bhagidari or public participation".
