Temporary and face-saving win for BJP, says Mamata Banerjee

Mamata Banerjee on Monday congratulated the people in Gujarat for their 'balanced verdict', following the election results. 

She further claimed that this is just a 'temporary and face-saving win for BJP, however, it shows their defeat'. 

She posted a Tweet saying: "I congratulate Gujarat voters for their very balanced verdict at this hour. It is a temporary and face-saving win, but it shows a moral defeat for BJP."

The Trinamool Congress leader further added: "Gujarat voted against atrocities, anxiety, and injustice caused to the common people. Gujarat belled the cat for 2019"

The BJP is in the lead in 99 seats in Gujarat and Congress is trailing with 80 seats in the state.

Earlier, Rahul Gandhi had tweeted expressing his gratitude towards the people of Gujarat and said that he "accepts the verdict of the people". 

He further told his supporters that they have demonstrated to everyone that the 'Congress’s greatest strength is its decency and courage.'

BJP has taken a clean sweep from Congress in both Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh.
