Former Indian naval officer, Kulbhushan Jadhav met his family on December 25 at Pakistan's Foreign Ministry office in Islamabad.

Jadhav's family returned to India that evening and met Union External Affairs Minister, Sushma Swaraj a day later.

The Ministry of External Affairs reported that Jadhav's family was heckled and harassed during their meeting with Jadhav and that the manner in which the meeting was conducted violated the terms and agreements that the two countries had agreed upon.

MEA spokesperson Raveesh Kumar said the "cultural and religious sensibilities of family members were disregarded".

Kulbhushan Jadhav faces espionage charges and was sentenced to death by Pakistan on April 10, 2017.

Jadhav's execution was halted in May 2018 after the International Court of Justice (ICJ) intervened.

The case currently rests with the world court for further action.
