Bollywood films are clearly the current favourite across China with Aamir Khan being their favourite star. The actor's Diwali 2017 release, Secret Superstar is doing really well at the box office.

The film has topped China’s box office since its release on Jan 19 in the country and has surpassed sales for Star Wars: Last Jedi, according to ticketing-data provider Maoyan.

While Hollywood films continue to rule the box office in China, Aamir Khan's films have been doing well too. Secret Superstar is Khan's second film that had created Box office record in China.

The success of the film also indicates that China is now slowly opening up to cinema from across the world. The country earlier only accepted franchise hits like Fast and Furious.

Secret Superstar has Zaira Wasim playing a gifted singer, who despite opposition from her conservative father, fulfills her dream of becoming a playback singer. Aamir plays a cameo role in the film.

Khan’s 2017 Dangal earned $193 million in China last year, according to Boxofficemojo.com. Secret Superstar is on track to become the second-biggest selling non-blockbuster in China with box office revenue of about 743 million yuan ($117 million), Maoyan estimates.
