A Chandigarh court on Tuesday dismissed the bail plea of Vikas Barala, the son of Haryana BJP President Subhash Barala, and his friend Ashish Kumar, in a stalking case.
Both the accused, who were arrested on August 9 for stalking and attempted abduction of disc jockey Varnika Kundu, will continue to remain in jail.
Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Barjinder Pal Singh rejected their bail application.
The court had asked the Chandigarh Police to file a reply on the bail application of the accused.
In its reply submitted to the court today, the Chandigarh Police said the accused should not be granted bail.
Both the accused will now have to file a bail application before a higher court.
In her complaint to the police, Varnika Kundu - the daughter of an IAS officer - had accused Vikas Barala and Ashish of stalking, intimidating and abducting her on the night of August 4.
Both were arrested on August 9 and sent to judicial custody.
They were booked under Section 365 (kidnapping or abduction with intent to confine person) and Section 511 (attempt to commit offence punishable with life imprisonment) of the Indian Penal Code.
