The Centre has barred about hundred organisations from receiving foreign funds.

Some of these organisations are leading academic institutions like IIT Delhi, Delhi University, JNU, ICAR, IGNOU according to a  PTI report.

The Supreme Court Bar Association has also been barred by the government.

The Union Home Ministry has cancelled the organisations' registration under the Foreign Contribution Regulation Act, 2010 (FCRA).

The registrations have been cancelled after the organisations failed to file their annual returns for five consecutive years (2010-11 to 2014-15) even after repeated reminders.

The registered organisations have violated the law according to which they need to submit the details of their income and expenditure to the government.

Organisations are not allowed to receive foreign funds until they are registered with the FCRA.
